It’s no debate that the first quarter of 2006 is housing many licensed properties from all sorts of mediums. Feeding off the buzz from the kid-favorite movie is the movie-based game, Ice Age 2: The Meltdown. The original movie was popular with a younger audience, and the game hopes to continue with that cartoon-like popularity. Gamers will take on the role of their favorite Ice Age character, as they battle and platform through various stages.
The game’s story focuses on similar aspects of the movie. Players will partake in a series of events, centered around the main characters, which include Manny the Mammoth, Sid the Sloth, and Diego the Sabre-Toothed Tiger. Much of the action will involve the antics of the sharp-toothed, wide-eyed squirrel, Scrat. In this near-graphical replicate of the movie, players will have to venture through a series of stages as Scrat. Players will go around collecting acorns and battling foes in order to save the Ice Age animals.
As Scrat, there will be a number of special attacks available for players to dispatch foes with. (Prehistoric squirrels are ferocious!) You will have to spin attack, roll, hop, jump and even dig through various obstacles and environments as you make your way through various levels with themes from the Ice Age movies. Tar Pits, mountainous ice caps, perilous platforms and more make up the journey as, Scrat, the unheroic hero, must save the land as it faces the impending danger of a giant flood.
The game has a scheduled release date pending of March 14, with the movie releasing shortly after that on March 31. The game will be available for the PC, Playstation 2, and Xbox.
