Dance Dance Revolution is the leading dancing game on the market today. It’s also one of the few games out there that can actually get you into shape. Konami is bringing a new installment to the series, with exclusive modes tailor-made for the Xbox. DDR Ultramix 3 has all new modes, new features, new dance moves and tons of new, energetic music.
New ways to burn up the dance floor
DDR Ultramix 3 for the Xbox is breaking into new dancing territory with some new content. The Quest mode in DDR allows a single-player to venture to different cities around the United States, taking on different dancing routines. A booking agent will give you tips as you take on challenges and make progress through each city. After earning enough points players can then move on to the next city, continuing their quest to become the best dancer in the nation.
Another Xbox exclusive mode is the Freestyle feature that allows up to four players to compete simultaneously on stage, creating their own dance routines. Players will receive CPU generated comments for their style, moves, and technique, which either praise or taunt your dancing abilities. Unlike the other modes, players won’t be restricted to following pre-set routines or directional commands, allowing for some fun free-style play.
Party mode, in previous DDR games, featured all kinds of unique ways to play the game. Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 3 brings a whole new set of fun and innovative dancing challenges to the Party Mode, like Bomb Style: A mode where players juggle a bomb, similar to hot potato, except the bomb must be juggled by doing dance combos. Players can either destroy their opponent with five combos or they can win by getting their opponent to keep the bomb until time runs out.
One of the more innovative Party mode features would have to be Attack Style: Players battle-dance towards victory by “attacking” their rival dancer with well-timed combo attacks. Opponents, though, can use counter-combos to block incoming attacks, and launch with devastating dance moves to get back at their attacker.
Other modes include Point Battle: A mode where opponents vie for the highest score by trying to keep in sync with directional commands. Whoever has the highest score at the end of the high-score round, wins. There’s also Sync Style, a mode which focuses entirely on the players dancing precision. Near perfect skills will be required to master Sync Style, as mistakes or misses will cause an instant game over.
Music for dance masters
There’s more to DDR Ultramix 3 than a ton of play modes and dance features. A “Workout” mode is included for those looking to burn some calories with dance routines, all while listening to great tunes. Konami has also added an Edit mode that enables players to make up and create their very own dance routines. Hence, the Edit mode provides an alternative for gamers looking for more, or less, of a challenge.
If editing your dance steps, trying to stay in perfect sync, or battling for a top score doesn’t appeal to you, then you can take your dancing skills on-line with Xbox Live. Gamers can compete with players across the Live community, in a number of invigorating dance modes, with up to four other players. Live features also include messaging, head-to-head competitions, internet rankings and more.
In addition to the already massive 70 featured songs on DDR Ultramix 3 (including the likes of Run D.M.C., Ray Charles, Moby, Good Charlotte and more), you can also upload and download content. Some of the exclusive content on Xbox Live includes up to 60 downloadable songs from previous Dance Dance Revolution games. Such content, allows gamers to have well over 100 different songs for use with DDR Ultramix 3.
You can even customize your very own playlist in “Jukebox” mode, where you can listen to your favorite tunes while watching some snazzy visuals. Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 3, with improved graphics, dozens of play features, and more than 100 minutes of tunes from various artists, will sure to be a fun-filled game for the whole family, come November 15, 2005.
