New to the family of twisted characters within the Crash Bandicoot universe is the cyborg theme park owner Ebeneezer Von Clutch. This is where the story is loosely based around, as it seems, with players being put in the driver seat to compete in chaotic raceways to collect power-crystals that Mr. Von Clutch has lost. But Ebeneezer and his drivers are not going down without a fight, especially with his theme park on the line. Nevertheless, Crash is back at it again but with more than just supped-up go-carts and crazy racing to deal with. This time around, the Bandicoot will be blazing through courses and running around in the standard CB platform fashion as well.

Clash of fury

Included with the racing mode is a super-racer upgrading capability. For those unfamiliar, here is the run-done: It’s called the ‘Clash’ ability, and it enables players who obtain special power-ups, to be able to collide with another go-cart and infuse them to make up an even bigger super go-cart. Tacked on with the ability to operate a fully functional, and devastating, mounted-turret gun. Now if a player has collided with a computer opponent during the race, turning the two go-carts into super-sized go-carts, then the player can utilize the turret-gun feature, or continue driving the car; considering that it’s a team effort, a player can only do one or the other. But to make things evened out, if more than a single player is duking it out on the raceway, they can combine carts and while one player drives like an unwanted son-in-law from his Mother-in-law’s house, the other player can shoot the living spit balls out of another racer until they are so far back in the race, that eating your dust will just be an appetizer.

Errand boy of the Bandicoot kind

Alongside being able to promptly explore the methods of brutally running your opponents off the road, Crash Tag Team racing introduces something a little different in the mechanics of most games featuring vehicular manipulation in coalition with on-foot expeditions. Players will still have the spin, jump, etc., standard of Crash moves at hand, but with this also comes a world with friends and foes alike for players to interact with that determine the course of options or tasks with which players will be faced: Ranging from having to acquire coins to acquire a specific item, such as a tutu or a fusion unit, to duking it out in different minigames. This all takes place within five massively explorative worlds: Mystery Island, Happily Ever Faster, Tyrannosaurus Wrecks, Tomb Town and Astro Land. Each world will require players to complete a certain amount of tasks and acquire a gem in order to unlock or gain access to the next world.

As fore-mentioned players will have a lot of control and access to different elements within each world. Racking up enough points or coins allows players to buy new outfits for other characters, or purchase new cars to race with by collecting special items.

A variety of ways to burn rubber

As anyone would already suspect, the game has the standard race mode for go-carters alike. But the other modes available as variants for some tracks, are the ones that distinguish this game from the next racing game over: The Crashinator is a mode that allows a single player to race as fast as possible on a single track, trying to hit as many targets as they can. Fast Lap is equivalent to time attack, where a player races a single lap as fast as possible. Rolling Thunder has the player manning the turret gun, in which they must get as many KOs as they can before crossing the finish line. Run and Gun is a mode that has you doing drive-by’s, and trying to rack up as much score as you can before the end of the race. As of course, there is also the standard racing mode, which is quite self explanatory, except unlike the other modes, Clash mode is an option instead of a condition when competing. You can look for this title to hit the shelves in the early part of October.
