Halo 2 Weapons Guide
The weapons of Halo 2 are no doubt very different then the
ones in Halo: Combat Evolved. Sure some weapons like the pistol, plasma rifle,
and shotgun stayed for the sequel but they still take time to master and you
won’t be able to just pick them up and take out the entire opposing team. This
weapons guide was written to give you a better understanding of the weapons in
Halo 2 and how to use them best against your opponents. This guide is meant for
multiplier modes, where combat happens much more often but can also be applied
to the single player campaign.
Dual Wielding
Dual wielding is something entirely new to the Halo world. Dual wielding
allows any player to hold two weapons and use two weapons at one time. The
obvious advantage is that if you are able to obtain another weapon you will be
much more powerful then if you were just fighting with one weapon in your hands.
Although there is a huge advantage in using two weapons at once there are also
drawbacks to this as well. First of all you can no longer through grenades if
you have two weapons out. This is not that big of a problem because grenades
when compared to a gun is not convent at all. Also when dual wielding if you use
the melee attack you automatically drop one of your two weapons. This is a
problem because melee attacks are extremely powerful and can usually take out
the opponent if you have already lowered their health. If you end up smacking
your opponent and they don't drop to the floor dead, you are left with one less
weapon and your opponent has a larger chance in winning the battle. Another
disadvantage of dual wielding is it is only possible with five of the guns
(Pistol, SMG, Plasma Pistol, Plasma Rifle, and Needler). Although dual wielding
has many disadvantages it is always worth it to pick up the second gun if you
have a weapon you can dual wield with. Despite the few disadvantages you will be
more successful with it then without it.
If you are not able to find another weapon on the map to pick up then there are
many tactics you can use if you find another opponent attacking you, which will
happen extremely often. You always want to aim for the upper chest and head
region and get as close as you can to them so you will be able to smack them.
Also use as many grenades as possible because chances are you won't be able to
over power them if they are dual wielding. By throwing grenades it is even
possible to kill your opponent after you have already died. Sticky grenades, or
plasma grenades, are extremely useful because if you are able to throw one on
someone they are dead meat
Weapons
M6C Pistol (dual wield)
This is probably the most powerful weapon you can dual wield with. If you come
upon one of these while playing and already have two weapons in hand, by all
means switch one out for the pistol. Although the pistol only has twelve bullets
per clip, each shot is extremely powerful and leaves a mark. If you are lucky
enough to have two of these at the same time you are pretty much unstoppable.
Sadly, the pistol no longer has a scope.

M7/Caseless Sub Machine Gun (SMG) (dual wield)
The SMG is the most common used weapon in Halo 2. On almost every map it is what
you start out with and it is very common to see people dual wielding with the SMGs. The SMGs hold sixty bullets per round and fires extremely rapidly. At close
range they can be deadly, but you might as well start throughing grenades if you
are trying to shoot someone at a distance. The recoil on the SMG is also
noticeable and takes time to get used to. If you find yourself in a combat using
the SMGs don't stay in one spot, aim for the head, and get as close to the enemy
as possible.

BR55 Rifle
The BR55 Rifle, or Battle Rifle, is a very different gun from the rest. It fires in short three
round bursts instead of automatic all the time. At first you will think this
weapon is pretty much useless because it takes so long to get a reasonable
amount of bullets out of the thing. Luckily the rifle is extremely powerful and
is also equipped with a 2X optical scope. This Rifle is horrible at close range
combat, but hide in a concealed spot and zoom in at an unsuspecting enemy on the
other side of the level and he won't know what hit him.

M90 Shotgun
The shotgun is one of everyone's favorite weapon in the game. If used correctly
it can be a single shot kill every time. The shotgun is only good for extremely
close combat. When approaching an opponent, don't fire until the last second.
Once you fire at point blank range, they will helplessly drop to the floor dead.
If you are too far away from the enemy then the best thing to do would be do
pull out your secondary weapon or start throwing grenades, or if you are too
scared, just turn and run.

S2 AM Sniper Rifle
The sniper rifle, another favorite in Halo 2, has a 5X and 10X zoom. This allows
you to spot enemies across even the largest levels in the game. The gas powered
rifle is extremely powerful and usually only takes two shots to take down an
opponent, if you aim for the head you will surely see the sheer power of the
sniper rifle as your victim flips backwards from a blow to the head.

M19 SSM Rocket Launcher
The rocket launcher is a special weapon and there is usually only one per map.
It is extremely powerful and using this thing on a single person would be like
killing a fly with a sledge hammer (but trust me, it happens often online). The
rocket launcher has a new lock on feature that will always have Worthog drivers
looking out for. It is the perfect weapon to take out an oncoming attack against
your team of three people in a Worthog. If you are successful in using the lock
on feature, everyone in the vehicle will die in the flames unless they bail out
in time. The rocket launcher is definitely one of the most useful, or most
annoying weapons, depending on whose hands it lies in.

Plasma Pistol (dual wield)
Not much new with this weapon in Halo 2. It has both single and charged shot and
will overheat if used to often. This weapons serves best in serving a charged
shot as your first attack against an oncoming enemy. It will lower their health
just enough for you to finish them off with your other weapon and the single
plasma shots.

Plasma Rifle (dual wield)
Just as in the first Halo game the plasma rifle is very useful and can
output hundreds of rounds per minute. Usually found in the hands of elites, dual
wielding with two of these babies can be deadly. However if you get too trigger
happy the rifle will overheat just like the plasma pistol and you will be left
dodging enemy bullets.

Needler (dual wield)
The Needler is a very unique weapon and to most new people simply looks like
a porky pine. The Needler contains thirty razor sharp crystals per round. The
needles fly out of the gun, as if by magic, and fly somewhat slowly compared to
a traditional bullet toward the enemy. Because the crystals are so slow they
have a homing feature that seeks out the closest enemy.

Covenant Carbine
The carbine is rarely found in multiplayer matches but is
very powerful and well worth giving up dual wielding to use. The carbine has a
scope and fires single but accurate shots. The covenant carbine is most similar
to the battle rifle and is well worth picking up unless you have something such
as a shotgun or energy sword.

Particle Beam Rifle
The particle beam rifle is basically the covenant sniper rifle. It fires a high
powered beam of energy and features a 5X and 10X zooming feature (just like the
human sniper rifle). Its accurate, precise, powerful, and can get extremely
annoying if somebody on the opposing force has their hands on it. On the other
hand, if you a wreaking havoc with this rifle, be sure to check your back often
as it will quickly become apparent that you are using it and most experienced
players where know exactly where you are as well.

Brute Shot
The brute shot is another rare weapon in the game and is very hard to use
correctly if you are picking it up for the first time. It is basically a grenade
launcher that can be bounced around corners if used correctly.

Fuel Rod Gun
The fuel rod gun launches radioactive fuel rod blobs. The weapon is extremely
heavy and takes up about half of the screen. The fuel rod gun is new to Halo 2
and a very different gun. It holds five fuel rods per clip and has a 2X zoom
feature.
Frag Grenade
The frag grenade in Halo 2 is similar to a typical grenade used today. The
frag grenades take skill to use because they easily bounce elsewhere from where
you intended them to go. However, randomly throwing grenades into a crowd of
fighting people is a pretty good tactic and can rack up some kills. Grenades are
a lot more useful then most people think and can be a last stitch effort in
taking out some people before dieing. Its quite hard to do, but it is possible
to through a frag grenade before you die and end up killing the person that
killed you. It takes skill, but is the ultimate revenge.

Plasma Grenade
The plasma grenades are known as "sticky" grenades because they don't bounce and
stick to whatever it touches. If you are skilled enough you can actually stick a
plasma grenade to another person. Once it is stuck on another person they become
a three second time bomb and there is nothing they can do to shake it off. The
plasma grenade will also stick to vehicles but won't stick on walls or other
parts of the terrain until it has landed on the ground.
Energy Sword
As seen in the first Halo game, every gamer only dreamed of a chance of using
this weapon, finally in Halo 2 the Covenant Energy Sword falls into the hands of
the gamer and the results are devastating. This weapon has such a huge advantage
over just about every other weapon that it is not rare to see a single person
mowing down an entire opposing team with just this new weapon. Usually in the
hands of high-ranking Elites, gamers finally have a chance to use it. If you are
actually skilled, or lucky, enough to obtain this weapon, anything that falls
within your cross hairs and is within a certain considerable distance can be
gone in just simply pressing the right trigger on your controller. However, this
weapon is not as easy as it may seem. If you are not within this certain
distance of another player, the sword is useless. If you find yourself in this
position you have very few choices, you can either hide until the person is dumb
enough to come any closer, continue on and hope you get to him before he kills
you, or take the time to switch to another weapon.

Location, Location, Location!
Just knowing all the weapons and how they work won't win you the game. An
important factor in the game is the location of each weapon. If you are clueless
as to where important weapons are placed in the game, they can easily be used
against you and your team. Learning each and every location on every map is a
good thing to do. It will not only help you to get the best weapons, but you
will also be able to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.
